Finding the light

For my first blog post, I will be writing in participation to author Dan Antion’s Thursday Doors Writing Challenge using Sherry Felix’s Photo as my inspiration for the challenge.

Constantly wandering around in a daze,

Elise found herself lost of late,

Stuck in a dark place.

A place void of colors, and gleeful cheers,

She once held dear.

As she closed her eyes,

She found herself transported, to a place unknown.

A reverse of what you may find in a fairytale,

There, before her stood a door,

A seemingly familiar reflection

Of what her life had become,

Cold, Distant, and Empty.

Plagued with an eerie sensation,

She felt the presence of lingering ghosts,

Holding on to the unfinished business of the past,

Unable to let go,

Unable to move on,

She felt deeply connected to this place,

Like soulmates being united at last.

This is where I belong,

This is home.

Reaching for the door,

A glimmer of light, shines through the trees

As though fighting to get in,

Trying to brighten up this dark place.

Distracting her from walking through the door,

She reaches out her hand, towards the light

Which seemed to pass through her,

Bringing warmth to her cold insides,

Stirring up a tingling feeling within her

What is this feeling? she asked herself

I have felt this before, in a distant time

Hope,

A voice whispers from within her

She smiles to herself and lifts both hands to reach the light

Suddenly, she opens her eyes

And knows deep down,

She’s going to be okay.

No matter how dark the times got,

Or how lost she felt,

There was always going to be a glimmer of light

Fighting to bring her home.

  1. I really enjoyed reading this poem. The light in that photo by Sherry is distinctive, and I’m glad you chose to feature it. Your poem is moving and it drew me in. I love the ending. Thanks for sharing this with the Thursday Doors Writing Challenge.
